Compare page versions in EPiServer CMS 7?

Vote:

I don't know if I'm overlooking something really obvious but my client has a desire to compare versions of pages. This was fine in EPiServer 6 but I can't find the corresponding functionality in EPiServer 7. I can see the version gadget in the navigation pane but no option to compare versions. The only workaround I'm aware of is to log into the classic editor which I don't particularly want to expose to my client.

The EPiServer 7 Editor manual states:

"Page versions can be compared in three different ways, allowing quick review of changes made to a page."

Has this been removed in EPiServer 7?

Seems like the gadget only allows for switching between different versions (not comparing). The CMS 6 compare view is available through the "old" edit interface which you can navigate to if you know the url :)

Thanks for the replies!

So it seems that EPiServer has removed the ability to compare versions in EPiServer 7. I know that this is a useful feature for a number of our clients.

I wonder if there is any plan to bring it back in a future release?

Bump!

Will the functionality to compare versions (and languages) come back?

Any more input on this question? our client is also using this funtion to compare. And it's also useful to see who did what.

Anyone knows if this function is available for EPiServer 7.1 now?

Side by side comparison is something we are currently working on and you will soon see the first version in our continous release updates.

Hi,

We've received feedback both internally and from clients that the compare functionality isn't as good as it was back in CMS 6. Specifically, there is no way to do property level comparison (forms view), which makes it hard to track changes efficiently.

@Peter, seeing that this is something of a core feature in EPiServer CMS, is this something that is planned to be improved in upcoming updates, and if so when?

Regards,
Johan

Hi Johan,

Property compare is in our near term roadmap. This means that we have started planning the feature and you will see it in the continuous updates the coming months.
