Has Google Analytics already been deemed unfit?

With the new plugin you'll have access to info from gadgets and a page's action window.

Everweb use SmarterStats that uses data from IIS log files. It doesn't have an EPi plugin though.

If you're using Google Analytics you have to "activate" the profile on a public webpage first. Google must be able to ping the site before it starts to log visits.

As Johan P states Google Analytics will not be appropriate here as it is needed for a private site not available on the web.

SmarterStats could be worth a look though.

Google Analytis works well with "private" sites. BUT you have to activate the profile on a public page first by adding the tracking code to another website.

I have used Google Analytics on a number of intranets and private sites without having todo any kind of activation.

As the document details.

1. Website visitor must have internet access.

2. The address of the website must use a fully qualified domain name.

So you site does not need to be available on the internet for google analytics to work.

Hi All, thanks for your responses so far.

As I understand it, and I may be wrong here, Google stores all analytic data which would not be acceptable for the scenario I'm expecting.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Well I guess your client can answer that question. Don't know if they're thinking page names and url's are sensitive data.
